FAQs - Entries

Frequently Asked Questions have been categorised into the topics located in the FAQs menu at left.

I haven't ridden a bicycle in ages. Can I still participate?

Of course you can! There are shorter leisure rides for beginners with stops along the way to enjoy a drink and snack to refresh and rest the legs. Only sections of some roads will be closed for major rides but clearly marked routes will be planned to make your ride safe and enjoyable. There will also be seminars organised to help you get your bike back in good condition and improve your riding skills. There are also non-cycling events such as a film night.

Do I have to be a BQ member to participate?

No you do not. But if you would like to become a member of Bicycle Queensland and join over 12,000 other people who receive great benefits, which include personal accident and third party insurance, discounted entry fees, 12 months subscription to Ride On magazine and regular updates on cycling developments click here.

Unless noted otherwise an 80% refund will apply to full or partial cancellations received in writing (email or fax acceptable) at the office of Bicycle Queensland by 5pm on Monday 12 March 2012. Entry kits received before this date must be returned to Bicycle Queensland before the event in order to receive the refund. No refunds will be given after this time and no alterations will be permitted. There are no refunds for non-starters or non-finishers.

NB: When a participant registers online or via postal entry form, they accept the Terms and Conditions of Entry.

Can I transfer my entry fees?

Entries cannot be transferred from one entrant to another.

What is in the rider kit?

The rider kit contains your bike bib, electronic timing chip (BDO Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge only) with attachment instructions, twist ties and wrist band. The electronic timing chip is a small computerised chip that you need to stick on your seat stem. It registers the time you cross the start and finish line points of Mt Coot-tha to calculate your hill time. The chip is disposable and is not required to be returned after the ride.

How do I collect my Rider Kit?

Each entrant in the Great Brisbane Bike Ride and Goldcross Cycles Family Fun Ride who enters before 4pm 8th March 2012 will automatically be sent their rider kit in the mail. Those who enter after 4pm 8th March until 12th March will need to collect their kit from the Bicycle Queensland office on 14th, 15th or 16th March 9am - 6pm. If you enter after the 12th March you must collect your kit from Musgrave Park on Saturday 17th (1pm - 4pm) or Sunday 18th (5am - 6am).

Participants in the BDO Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge who enter before 4pm 8th March 2012 will be either sent their rider kit in the mail or can collect it from their nominated location on their entry form (Bicycle Queensland Office or River City Cycles).  Those who enter after 4pm 8th March until 12th March need to collect their rider kit from their pre-selected location (Bicycle Queensland Office or River City Cycles). If you enter after the 12th March you must collect your kit from Musgrave Park on Saturday 17th (1pm - 4pm) or Sunday 18th (5am - 6am). Please refer to your e-ticket confirmation email for your selected location.

If you have not received your kit by Thursday 15th March please contact the Bicycle Queensland Office on 3844 1144 to arrange a new kit.

What do I need to bring to collect my ride kit?

Each entrant will automatically be sent an e-ticket to the email address nominated in their entry. This e-ticket confirms your entry and you should print this out and bring it with you to collect your rider kit at your selected location. If you do not receive an e-ticket (e.g. if you do not provide a valid email address), please contact the Bicycle Queensland Office on 3844 1144.

Can someone else collect my rider kit on my behalf?

We recommend participants collect their own rider kits. However, if you need to collect for another person you must have their e-ticket.

What is the Entry Fee, and what does it include?

To view event pricing see the Program of Events page.

Are their age restrictions?

Children under 12 must not pilot their own bike on the Great Brisbane Bike Ride. Riding in the Goldcross Cycles Family Fun Ride or on a tandem rear, tagalong, trailer or child seat is permitted. Children under 14 must not pilot their own bike on BDO Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge. Riding on a tagalong, trailer or child seat is not recommended due to the hilly nature of the BDO Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge. Children under 16 at the time of The Event must be accompanied during The Event by an adult.

Does everyone need to enter?

Anyone pedalling is required to enter separately into the event and have their own rider bib/number; this includes anyone on a tandem rear and tagalong bike. Children under 5 years old not pedalling do not need to enter, however will not receive food or merchandise.

I’d like to be a volunteer on the day. How do I do this?

Bike Week takes an enormous effort to organise and simply cannot be done without the help of a large team of volunteers. You could be a marshal, or a rest-stop helper, or take on one of the more specialised roles such as sign crew or site set-up.  Click here for more information.
