What is the ride etiquette?

In the interest of providing a safe and enjoyable event experience for all participants, cyclists should be mindful of ride etiquette:

  • Keep to the left to allow people to pass on the right.
  • Do not ride more than two abreast.
  • Do not stop or change directions suddenly.
  • Do not double back on the course.
  • Be courteous to your fellow riders at all times.
  • Always follow the directions of all ride officials and emergency service personnel.

Please also read through the Queensland Transport and Main Roads Bicycle Road Rules to ensure your understand and obey them.

Can I stop or push my bike?

Walking/pushing your bike is permitted however cyclists should be aware of the finish times, and to the left side of the bike and the bike to the far left on the path.

Can I run, or enter with something other than a bike?

Roller blading, skating, skipping or running are not permitted in any event.

Can I ride with my dog?

No animals of any kind are allowed.

When should I get to the start site?

It is recommended that you arrive at the start site at least 45minutes before the start of your event to familiarise yourself with the start area, location of toilets and baggage tent.

Where do I leave my belongings?

Check the Ride Guide (see Info Sheets page) for the location of the baggage tent at the start site. This is a service staffed by volunteers of the official charity. Clothing and/or belongings (no valuables please) should be placed in a plastic bag marked with your bib number. They will be left in the tent assigned to your ride for retrieval. Belongings must be collected before 1.00pm on Sunday 18 March 2012.

Can a child enter the BDO Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge?

Children under 14 must not pilot their own bike on BDO Brisbane Coot-tha Challenge. Riding on a tagalong, trailer or child seat is not recommended due to the hilly nature of the BDO Brisbane Coot-ha Challenge. Children under the age of 16 require a parent/guardian to ride with them along the entire course for safety.

Can a child enter the Great Brisbane Bike Ride?

Children under 12 must not pilot their own bike on the Great Brisbane Bike Ride. Riding in the Goldcross Cycles Family Fun Ride or on a tandem rear, tagalong, trailer or child seat is permitted. Children under the age of 16 require a parent/guardian to ride with them along the entire course for safety.

Can I ride on a tandem or tagalong bike?

Yes, however, riding on a tagalong, trailer or child seat is not recommended on the BDO Brisbane Coot-ha Challenge due to its hilly nature.
